Provisional Licenses From the Texas Medical Board

October 29th, 2009 by Jon Porter | Print

Effective January 1, 2010, the Texas Medical Board will be issuing Provisional Licenses for applicants for a full license.  However, there are specific requirements to obtain the provision license:

            1.         Must practice in a federally or state designated medically underserved area.

            2.         Must meet licensing exam attempt requirements.

            3.         Must pass a criminal background check, that is performed by  fingerprints.

            4.         Must pass the Texas Jurisprudence Examine.

            5.         Must be sponsored by a Texas licensed physician with whom the  application may practice.  This can be waived if there is a hardship.

The provisions license is good for only 270 days or until the permanent license has been issued; whichever comes first.  If one does not have their license within that 270 time period, the physician must immediately cease practice.
